You will study biotechnology courses, whichaim to enhance your understanding of using biological processes, organisms, orsystems to manufacture products intended to improve the quality of human life.These courses will provide training in state-of-the-art biotechnologyapplications what have resulted in ground-breaking developments in the areas ofmedicine, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food production, environmentalclean-up and protection and industrial processes.

If you are studying for an MSc you willundertake individual project in the summer period (May–August). This will giveyou an opportunity to apply and consolidate the course material and enhanceyour ability to do independent work, as well as present results in the mostappropriate format.  Project options areclosely linked to staff research interests.

The aims of the courses are to

enable students to study state-of-the-artbiotechnology topics in depth.

allow students to benefit from leading-edgeresearch-led teaching.

provide a critical appreciation of relevanttheoretical, methodological and technical literature from the central businessdisciplines.

develop students’ ability to criticallyappraise published research related to biotechnology.

cultivate analytical and interpretiveabilities and enable students to integrate these with essential managerial andbusiness skills.

develop students laboratory skills relevantto biotechnology.

enhance students’ conceptual, analyticaland presentation skills and to apply them to biotechnology problems.

prepare students for management positionsin the biotechnology industry or entry into PhD programmes.

Applicants with a degree in other areas maybe considered. Professional experience may also be taken into account.
